Product - Analytical Grammar curriculum and DVD. (A systematic approach to language mastery.)
Recommended age - Grade 6 and up.
Website - http://www.analyticalgrammar.com/
Created by - R. Robin Finley (A retired language arts teacher.)
Contributing author - Erin Karl (Robin's daughter. Erin taught middle school language arts.)
It is quite intimidating writing a review for a language arts program. Of course, I will second - guess every thing I write! But this program is exceptional. I have been using it with my teenage son.
Here are the basics:
There are two bound workbooks.
One is the student book -
There are 35 units which cover such lessons as: pronouns, comma rules, helping verbs, active and passive voices, and many more. These are designed to be done in order, each lesson building on the last one.
A lesson consists of:
Notes: Explains the objective, uses definitions and examples, and introduces the lesson.
Exercise #1: Since we used the DVD along with the binder, we watched the lesson on DVD. The Teachers were wonderful. It was like having private tutors who were professional, to the point, and took the time to carefully explain the exercise to viewers.
Exercise #2: The student does this on his own. It is similar to the first exercise.
Exercise #3: Similar to the previous exercise, continuing the practice and work required to thoroughly learn the unit.
Some of the units include a "Skills Support": A lesson for the student to complete.
Each unit ends with a Test.
What I love about this program is that each exercise is only one page long. It is not cluttered up with directions or endless text. It is to the point, clearly written, and helps the student get the job done.
The teacher book is the same as the student book but has all the answers filled in.
DVD:
This is a set of four DVDs. All 35 units are included here. This is very well done. I found it to be an invaluable teaching resource to go with the workbook.
Overall, the program is just what I have been looking for. We did this program first thing most mornings. If we were at the table, I would set up a laptop for my student to watch the DVD. He could also watch it on television in another room. He worked wherever he found a quiet room. I greatly appreciated the DVD because I felt like my student was in the capable hands of excellent tutors, who could teach this subject better than I could! Why? Because they have dedicated much of their lives to the study and teaching of this one subject. Their teaching method and curriculum is well tested and worked beautifully for us.
Mrs. Finley and her daughter have uncomplicated language arts and made it very easy to learn. I was impressed with the quality of the program and how well everything was explained.
My student has a greater appreciation of sentence structure and the purpose of grammar. He has always been a struggling learner. This program has improved his reading and writing skills, by helping him focus specifically on the study of language arts.

Genealogy Revelations Project
Company - Genealogy Revelations
Hostess - Anna Rae
Anna graciously gave me a research package for review purposes. I have always been curious about my extended family history. I have seen all kinds of places online to do one's own research, but just don't have the time or the interest in doing all that work! Anna had me fill out a questionnaire. I answered easy questions including names of parents and grandparents. I also told her any dates of marriage, birth and death that I was aware of. I told her the names of states and cities where our family has lived. I chose to only have her search for my side of the family because my husband didn't want to "play." (gentle smiles)
I have my parents nearby and they were able to confirm much of Anna's findings. For example, my mother didn't know her grandmother's name. But when I read the report, she immediately remembered that, yes, her name was "Maggie." I was delighted! My father didn't remember his grandparent's names or the names of his father's siblings. Anna found those for us and we were just thrilled.
It was great to see the neatly organized report, in a beautiful binder. The report included:
1. Introduction, which was a letter from Anna explaining how the report works.
2. A Pedigree Chart (This looks like a neatly organized family tree.)
3. Ahnentafel Report (This listed the generations with more detailed information. My report included 12 generations!)
4. Outline Descendant Report (This was a short version of both my father's side of the family and my mother's side of the family.)
5. Family Group Sheets (This was one person's family per page. Mine was 7 pages long. It started with me, and listed husband wife and children, as well as birthdays, name of parents, etc.)
6. Sources - Anna listed where her information came from, including census records.
I took this report to my parents and as we talked about it, I heard many stories about my extended family. I wrote notes inside my report, which made the book even more valuable to my family. For example: My mother talked about visiting her aunts and uncle in a 3 story house in Massachusetts. In those days, unmarried adult children remained in the family home. They often worked and took care of the home. Mom remembered walking up to the house, as a child, and seeing one of her aunts standing on the porch. She then told me where they worked and what they were like. I had never heard any of this before! Anna's report jarred her memory and greatly added to the recording of our own history.
Anna did an incredible job. She loves her work, and her customer service skills are excellent. She worked right with me, through email, to verify information, and ask questions. She found census records that told me where part of my family was living at one point in history, with a date, and the type of occupation family members had. It was wonderful to learn this through Anna, who became a sort of assistant to help me find information about my family. She really cares about people and loves finding information for her customers.
A General Research Package is listed as $175. Anna also works by the hour as needed.
For more information, please visit her site at "Genealogy Revelations."

Classical Astronomy with Jay Ryan
When we look at the sky, we see part of the miraculous creation of God. The sun, the moon and the stars are beautiful and mysterious. Author Jay Ryan has published resources to help Christian homeschoolers understand Astronomy.
Moonfinder -

This hardcover book is 32 pages long. It is beautifully illustrated. The simple paintings inside depict a family at home. These were done by Jay Ryan, who also wrote the story. The book starts with a verse in the Bible from Psalms.
The story is about a young boy, David, spending time with his Dad and asking him questions about the moon. You will also see the Mom and David's siblings. We see them during the day, at the market, and at the park. They find the moon way up in the sky during both the day and night.
Through the story, Dad teaches us about the moon. We learn that it changes in size and in places. We learn that it is God that gave us the moon to teach us about time.
The book includes a chart and information in the back of the book. It is called "The Monthly Cycle of the Moon," and is fascinating.
The pictures and text will make you smile. It is a lovely storybook for children.
Jay has also authored a homeschool curriculum, "Signs and Seasons: Understanding the Elements of Classical Astronomy" along with a companion (paperback) workbook, "Field Journal and Test Manual." This set is very detailed and full of great information. It will remind you of the Old Farmer's Almanac. It is fascinating!
The books were published by Fourth Day Press. For ordering information, please visit the Classical Astronomy Website.

Homemaking 101
DVD - Homemaking 101 with hostess Jennifer Ross of Renewing Housewives.
Production - Family Vision Films.
Running Time - 54 minutes plus bonus features.
The Ross family has created a dynamic presentation for homemakers. Jason and Jennifer Ross are the parents of 11 children and have a lovely homelife. They have been very generous in allowing us to enter their home and see what life looks like for a godly housewife.
In this film, you will be welcomed by Jennifer, your hostess, as she guides you through her daily life. She shares visual guidance on cleaning, cooking, managing bills, and child care.
There are a total of 25 scenes plus 7 bonus sections.
Her segments on cleaning the bathroom, kitchen and freezer are excellent. New housewives who are looking for practical advice for quick and thorough cleaning will greatly appreciate this! I love how Jennifer actually does the cleaning, often with her little ones nearby, and shows it is work, and that it is do-able.
I appreciate how she shows the cooking process, making breakfast, preparing her husband's lunches, handling leftovers and defrosting frozen meat for dinner. I love how she cleans as she goes along, keeping the house looking nice, and well cared for, in a practical way.
Jennifer discusses distractions, trusting God for finances, organizing bills, planning meals, washing floors, dusting, training children and keeping up with dishes. She even shares a little about homeschooling and offers several homemaking hints!
Her gentle spirit is inspiring. You get a sense of peace, while feeling as if you are visiting with her. In the bonus section, she sits and drinks tea while answering several common questions about homemaking. This is a lovely addition to the program.
You'll also see clips of the children playing, mom reading to the family, and everyone working in the kitchen together. You will also "meet" an older Titus 2 woman, who shares advice as the program goes along. Her godly wisdom includes sobering thoughts like, "You either live by the Bible or you live by the world. . . And if you try to mix the two, you're going to fall off in a ditch somewhere."
I would recommend this DVD for those who need some encouragement, and those who want to see homemaking in a practical way. I would also recommend this for those who have no idea what gets accomplished in a housewife's day. Truly it is a challenging, rewarding job that takes a great deal of effort.
Jennifer encourages fellow Christian housewives in their job at home by telling us, "Staying home with your babies. . . with your children. . is the right thing to do. It's what the Lord has called us to do. There is no higher calling."
This DVD sells for $15.95 and is an excellent investment.
Edited update - Jennifer has just given me a discount code for you. This will give you 20% off the DVD. Just use code - legacy20

Designer Walking Cane
Product - Adjustable, Aluminum Walking Cane
Price - $32.00
Company - Fashionable Canes and Walking Sticks
I've often wished I had a cane. I have those days when I cannot walk without assistance. I've fallen into walls, fallen down the stairs and struggled to keep my balance. Many times I've cried while holding onto someone else simply because I felt helpless that I couldn't walk alone. Those are the bad days.
Most of the time, I am healthy and feeling fine. I can even exercise and have no trouble walking and even running! But when the bad days come, I would either lean on someone else, or use crutches for extra support.
Last year, my mother bought her first cane. I was so impressed, I wanted one too. Now you may think that is strange, since I look young. My kids even tease me and say, "Mom, stop pretending you need a cane!" The fact is, there are many adults who need the extra support. But canes are often boring to look at. That's why I was thrilled to see fancy canes that look like they are used by royalty!
I now have a beautiful, elegant cane. The design is called Moonlit Floral, with a Derby Handle. It is lovely!
I use this on my bad days. I can walk around the house, the property and even in public with the extra support I need. The design is eye-catching. When I walk with my new cane, I feel like I can hold my head up and keep my dignity.
The tag that came with my cane says it is from "The Royal Cane Collection." It also says their canes "are designed with a sense of style and quality that makes them the finest walking canes in the world."

This is a fun and easy version of the original Monopoly board game. Salaries are only $2, property is around $3 each, and you only need to buy one tire (rather than a hotel) to start collecting rent!
There is a delightful racetrack that goes around the board. Instead of rolling a dice, players have to spin a car around the race track. I can just imagine young children having a blast with this!
When you land on chance, you'll get directions such as: "Guzzle Fuel and spin again!"
Game pieces are cute, little cars!
This is a fabulous game that will provide plenty of fun for children.

You could also mix it up in a smoothie to weaken the flavor - try adding it to a strawberry/ blueberry mixture with a little ice cream and you won't even notice the healthy boost you are getting from natural greens!
Here is a little information from the company:
"Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens contains a variety of high ORAC value whole foods, providing you with optimal levels of antioxidants that would be difficult to get on your own. Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens also contains 2600mg of Organic Flax & Organic Flax Lignans per serving, rich in ALA Omega 3 fatty acids."
Would you like a chance to win a canister of Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens (mint flavor)? I have one available for a giveaway. All you have to do is leave me a comment.

I have a delightful giveaway to offer you today. I just baked some gluten-free chocolate chip cookies and they are warm and delicious! There will also be a recipe link-up, so we can visit one another during this, the first day of my week-long open house party.
But first, I have a message from Betty Crocker:
"Hold the gluten, grab your apron and start your ovens! Betty Crocker is hosting its first-ever gluten-free recipe contest, the Baker´s Challenge Gluten Free Recipe Contest, and we want you to be a part of it!"
We know baking in a gluten-free world poses its own challenges - as well as sweet rewards - so we want to give you a chance to show off the creative solutions and tasty treats that you´ve created for your family and friends.
Now through June 30th, visit www.glutenfreely.com/
Recipes will be judged on five key categories: taste, creativity, ease of preparation, consumer appeal and appearance. Plus, we want you to keep baking deliciously, so if you´re one of 10 selected finalists, you will receive a Betty Crocker Gluten Free Baking gift basket filled with baking items and Betty Crocker Gluten Free mixes. Even more exciting, finalists´ recipes will be featured on www.glutenfreely.com/

Go Go SqueeZ portable Snack
Product - Go Go SqueeZ "The Fun Applesauce with an active attitude."
Description - All Natural applesauce, in a no-mess, pouch container.
When juice boxes were first invented, I was delighted. I was able to pack a few for my children on long car trips, and the children thought they were fun!
Go Go SqueeZ is a wonderful invention! They are pouches, much like juice boxes, that contain all natural applesauce. There is a built in mouth piece (like a straw), and the child can squeeze the contents to bring it to the top.
We received 3 flavors to test out; Apple Peach, Apple Banana, and Apple - Apple. I thought they were delicious and, even though they were stored in my kitchen cabinet, I found them to be cool to the taste and quite refreshing!
These are certified Kosher, gluten-free and dairy-free. They contain 100% fruit!
The company has partnered with TerraCycle, Inc. and is committed to helping us upcycle and recycle!
Have you tried Go Go SqueeZ? You can find them at places like Walmart, Target, and Costco.
