Publishing at The Estate

The Letter, 1942

Since late last fall, during rare moments of leisure, I have been working on a project with Mrs. Hultquist.  She is the author of "Dear Kitchen Saints."   Her marriage testimony first appeared in "Above Rubies" magazine in the year 2000.  She has been writing letters to homemakers for many years.  She has encouraged and inspired many wives and mothers at home.

This past December, we published her second book, "Dear Christmas Mothers."  I have read it many times and found that, no matter what time of year it is, I am always cheered on and ready to get up and make my home a happy place for my family. Her writing is endearing and full of old time wisdom.

In this Christmas book, Mrs. Hultquist mentions a cassette tape that was made nearly 20 years ago.  This was of 3 of her youngest 6 children, along with Connie and her husband, Jim.  She had taught the children to play a little bit of piano and wanted to make sure they knew the classic songs, like "Silent Night," and "Drummer Boy." She also taught them "Silver Bells;" "We Wish You a Merry Christmas;" and many more.

As readers of her books and writings have been very blessed by her work, we knew you would be curious to hear this recording.  With that in mind, and after much work by a team of us here at the Estate (Including Great- Grandpa's technical work), we were able to transfer this cassette tape onto a CD.  I chose a small selection from the recording and we created a final version for the public.  This Audio CD was just released and is available for sale.  Readers of "Dear Christmas Mothers" will love it.

You will hear the children singing, along with their parents. As you listen to the piano playing and the laughter of an everyday family enjoying home and being together, it will warm your heart.  It will inspire you to get out the old music books, and gather the family around while you create your very own homemade, old fashioned Christmas.

I realize April is an odd time to mention Christmas resources.  I want to explain my reasoning.  Very soon, we are expecting another little blessing here at our Estate.  I expect to be very busy helping with our new grandbaby's care, along with her Mother, and the full time care of my other grandchild.  I am also expecting another grandbaby shortly after that.  With all this excitement, I don't know what lies ahead.  Time will be limited. So I wanted to release the Christmas work before life here leaves me very little leisure.

I also realize Mother's Day is soon approaching.  Many Mothers would love to have Connie's "Dear Christmas Mothers" and the companion audio CD "Christmas at Connie's."  I know it will make an encouraging gift!

Audio CD:  "Christmas at Connie's - 1996  (The Home Recordings)

(The piano on the cover of the CD, is from Connie's home.)

May you have a lovely Christmas, and I hope you enjoy these homemaking resources!

Dear Christmas Mothers

Home for Christmas, 1784

The holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas is centered around the home.  While the culture around us encourages shopping and spending, it would be so nice to be comforted in the art of Christian homemaking and motherhood.  There is a new book that just may help us!

"Dear Christmas Mothers" is a sweet homemaking book, which was just published!  The author shares precious letters about her days as an Iowa housewife - a wife, mother and grandmother.  Her letters are about what she is doing in her home for Christmas.  A selection of 17 letters, from a period of 5 years of her writings were chosen to make this little book.  These are from 2000 to 2005.

As you read, you will be encouraged.  You will enjoy a literary visit to an Iowa home.  You will learn about how Christmas used to be, and how it can be.

This book would make a lovely gift for yourself, or for any mother who loves home.

It was written by Mrs. Connie Hultquist, the author of "Dear Kitchen Saints."

paperback, 116 pages.

Description from the Back Cover:

"There are many Home Economics books that will teach you important facts, such as how to get out a stain; how to clean your oven; or how to read food labels. This is all valuable information. We should certainly have those kinds of books in our homes. Nonetheless, did you ever just want to enter someone's home and observe how it all works in daily life? Did you ever want to learn about how a family used to keep house, or how it is working today?

"Mother's Book of Home Economics" will give you that personal touch of Homemaking. It covers subjects like Marriage, Cleaning, Child Care, Manners, Simple Living, Motherhood, Thrift and Holiness. Here you will find a variety of letters, essays and memories about Home Economics. This was written by a New England Housewife, who has been married for more than 25 years."

There are 121 short chapters, compiled from 4 years of blog writing.

Review Tour - For the Love of Christian Homemaking

I wanted to host a little tour today.  There are a few bloggers who have reviewed my homemaking book.  I'd love for you to visit them, when you have time, and see what they thought about the book.

Angie

I will start with Angie.   She is a homeschooling Mother of two sons, and lives with her family on a beautiful Lake out West.  Her homeschooling posts are always inspiring!

Here is part of her review:

"We had just moved to this tiny town from a larger city full of activity and Going. Always Going. All of a sudden, I felt stuck at home, and quite alone. Mrs. White’s writing was soothing salve to my hurting heart. She talked of loving to take care of her home. Of relishing the quiet hours of the morning for rest and reflection and planning for the day. She would write about common housework like she was preparing for the most precious holiday or for a State Dinner. It was so calming; it brought validation of the importance of my role inside these four walls."

. . . .Read the rest at Petra School.

Sherry

This Homeschooling Mother of fifteen children has encouraged many people with her blog!  Her books about teaching using the McGuffey readers are well worth a look.

Here is part of her review:

"Any mother would feel refreshed after just a few paragraphs; Sharon seems to know how to blend the simple with the profound."

. . . Read the rest at Large Family Mothering.

Mrs. June Fuentes

A Wife and Mother of 8 children, she has been blessing women online with her blog for many years. Her lovely blog is inspiring!

Here is part of her review:

"She draws us back to what is simple, peaceful, without all the rush and pressure of this world. Her focus is keenly on making a home for her beloved family and she does it with grace and strength that she draws from the Lord."

. . . Read the rest at A Wise Woman Builds Her Home.

Laura

A wife and homeschooling mother in Alaska.  She does a wonderful job with her blog, as she reviews many products that would benefit homeschooling families!

Here is part of her review:

"Having read several of Mrs. White’s writings in the past, I already had an expectation of the lovely conversational style she possesses.  I can just envision her in my mind’s eye with a cup of tea on the table as she spends a bit of time typing on the computer to share her thoughts on the vocation of motherhood."

. . . Read the rest at Day by Day in Our World.

Lady Violet

A Sweet mother of several little ones, Lady Violet is a dedicated homemaker. Her beautiful blog is artistic and encouraging.

Here is part of her review:

"Come and sit awhile in Mrs. White's parlor and be transported back in time. Mrs. White is a full time homemaker who takes her job seriously. Oh and yes, it is a job! If you have ever doubted that, this book will remind you of the importance of your job as a Christian homemaker."

. . . Read the rest at Blessed Homemaking.

If you decide to buy a copy of "For the Love of Christian Homemaking," for yourself or for a gift, I would love it if you would buy through one of their posts (which should contain an affiliate link, and will provide them with a small commission).

I hope you enjoyed this tour! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit!

Early Morning Revival Challenge

"Inspired by the life, writings, and journals
of John Wesley (1700's), the author has created
a 90 - day Bible study challenge. .

The program consists of four, easy to follow, daily
assignments. Readers are expected to rise earlier
in the morning than normal; Spend 20 minutes in
prayer, Bible reading, writing in a journal, and
reading quotes from Ministers from long ago. . .

The study is simple to follow, but will take a
tremendous amount of discipline to stay consistent to the very end. . .

If you are up for a challenge and ready for a revival, this book is just what you need!"

 -  This is the description from the back cover of my new book, "Early Morning Revival Challenge."

List Price: $12.99

ISBN-10: 0615861059
Early Morning Revival Challenge
By Mrs. Sharon White

This is a slim, 72 page, paperback book.  The interior has an "antique" look with "cream" colored paper, rather than the traditional "white."  The cover has a photograph of our Vermont Estate Grounds, and looks very peaceful.  I spent hours searching through my home library, to glean a selection of inspiring quotes from Ministers from the 1600's, 1700's and the 1800's.  These include Richard Baxter, Thomas Boston, John Wesley, Samuel Rutherford, John Bunyan, and more (one for each day of the challenge).  The book includes a complete bibliography of quotes, so you can see exactly where they came from.

I intend to start this challenge myself, in just a few days.  I have also ordered a copy for my youngest homeschool student (age 16).  I believe this will be an excellent addition to his studies.  The discipline of reading 2 chapters in the Bible each day (from Psalms and Proverbs), writing in a journal, and praying, before the day begins will be a blessing to both of us!

The New Mother's Faith

Late last year, I released a book for mothers of waywards.  It is now out of print.  A second edition is now available.  It is the exact same book, to which has been added:  An introduction, and two brief essays.

This edition is 102 pages, a pretty pink, and is a compact purse size.

Title:  Mother's Faith:  Essays, Lamentations and Encouragement from a Christian Mother of Waywards.

I have been getting emails and comments from readers who have been greatly encouraged and helped by this book.

It is designed to comfort Mothers and strengthen their faith.  It is designed to gently remind them to have a holy patience and to trust God with their children.

At times, the book is painful to read. (I still cry when reading some of the chapters.)  The sadness mothers of waywards feel is universal, regardless of the circumstances.

By the end of the book, however, I hope you are no longer crying. I hope you are smiling and greatly encouraged to keep going!

I would love your help in spreading the word about this book.  Here are ways you can help:

1.  Write a review on Amazon.

2.  Share about the book on Facebook.

3. Share about the book on your blog.  [If you have an affiliate account with Amazon, you can use your referral link to earn a commission on any sales of the book that come through your blog.]

Thank you for your help. I am grateful for your support and ongoing encouragement.

Blessings
Mrs. White

A Way to Get My Books for Free

Last month, I released my two books,

 "Mother's Faith," and

"For the Love of Christian Homemaking."  These are both paperback books and are available for sale on amazon.

There is a fun way to get them for free, but it will take a little time.  Here's how:

1.  Use your swagbucks account, or set up your first account with them.

Swagbucks is powered by google and is simply a search engine.  The bonus is that you are randomly awarded points, as you search.  These can be redeemed for prizes, such as gift cards from Amazon.  I always redeem mine for $5 gift cards. When there is something I want to buy from Amazon, I can save up those gift cards and, very often, get the item for FREE!

There is no charge or cost whatsoever to use Swagbucks.

2.  Get points.  Once you earn 450, you can redeem them for a $5 gift card.

You can get points by logging into swagbucks, seeing the toolbar at the top of the site and click on earn. Here are two ways that are most common and easy:

Choose "daily poll," to earn a quick point.  Choose NOSO, and earn 2 points.  (simply read the offers and choose "skip" to get through them to earn your points. It takes only minutes.)

You will get most of your points, however, by simply making sure you are logged into your swagbucks account and searching for whatever you normally need to search for.

3. Once you've earned enough gift cards, you can get one or both of my books for free!

4. From there have fun earning more free stuff, like movies, toys, food, household items, clothes and gifts.

Blessings
Mrs. White

Mother's Faith - My New Book

Christian Mothers today are often struggling with having a happy home because of wayward teenagers.  These mothers have spent years praying, teaching and training their children in godliness. They have a great hope for a godly family and for children who grow up to bring joy to their hearts.

Instead, many teenagers and young adults have periods of waywardness.  Their pain, their trials and their choices bring weeping and sorrow to their godly mothers.  But this is not the best way to face the trials of mothering older ones.

"Mother's Faith" is designed to help comfort these mothers. It is designed to inspire courage and bring them joy.

The book contains a collection of essays, gathered from this blog. They were specifically written by this mother of five,  in the midst of my own sorrow and trials, over the course of 3 years.

It is a plain, small paperback book, but packed with an important, ongoing message - Mother's Faith must never waver, no matter what the waywards do in the home. Mother will one day reap a harvest of joy.  This book will help give you a holy patience.

Please help spread the word.   After reading the book, if you would like to leave a review on Amazon, I would be most grateful.

Blessings
Mrs. White
